I5 Transforming Objects
Rotating objects
select the object to be rotated. Click the rotating tool. Notice the reference point is in the center. Click near the reference point and rotate in a circular direction.
To change the reference point, click a new reference point and rotate as above.
Use the rotate dialog box for precise rotations, or to rotate only the pattern (OBJECT/Transform/Rotate)
Scaling objects
Select the object to be scaled. Note the reference point. Select the scale tool. Click and drag to scale. Click to change the reference point as above. or Alt-click new reference point to open dialog box.
The scale dialog box allows for uniform or non-uniform scaling. There is also a patterns option to scale only the pattern
Reflecting Objects
creates a mirrored version. Select the object to be reflected. Select the reflect tool (under the rotate tool) note the reference point. Click and drag to reflect.
The reflect dialog box gives more control OBJECT/transform/reflect
Shearing Objects
slants an object along its horizontal or vertical axis. Select the object to be shorn (sheared?). Select the shear tool. Note the reference point. Click a new one, if desired. or Alt-click a new reference point to open dialog box.
Envelope Distort
Select the object to be distorted. OBJECT/envelope distort/make with warp. Choose options in dialog box.
To distort with top object. Select all the objects, OBJECT/envelope distort/Make with top object
Double click on tool or alt+click in artboard ro get a dialog box for these tools. Ctrl+D will repeat the just completed action. Reflecting can cool affects with text. Referance points do not have to be located within the object being manipulated.
