I4 Type
Default Type tool
Used to create both Point type and Rectangle area type
Point Type
Select the Type tool, click an insertion point and key in text
To change the type size or Horizontal/Vertical scaling, use the selection tool to get a bounding box and drag selection handles to obtain desired effect.
To reposition text, use the direct selection tool to drag type to desired location
used when you want to work with one or more paragraphs of text.
select the type tool and click and drag a rectangle. Key in text.
Use the selection tool to get a bounding box and size the rectangle to fit you needs. A red + appears when you are in overflow (your rectangle is not big enough to fit your text)
Shape area tool
used to enter text inside a path
create a closed path, select the Area Type Tool, click an insertion point, key in the text (use will lose any fill and strike attributes)
to use fill and stroke attributes, first create the closed path with desired fill and stroke, then paste a copy in front and proceed with the area text tool. You may want to group the objects when you finish
Type on a path
Create a path. Use the Path Type Tool to click an insertion point and key text. Adjust baseline shift as needed on the options section of the character pallet
Vertical Text Tools
work the same as above, only the text is vertical.
Font
is a complete set of characters (upper case, lower case, numerals, symbols and punctuation marks) in a particular typeface. Typeface is the term that refers to the actual design or cut of the characters.
Style
refers to additional formatting you put on a typeface such as bold, italic, etc
Size
is measured in points 72 pts = 1 inch
Leading
is the distance from one baseline of text to the next. A baseline is an imaginary line that runs along the base of text characters.
Kerning
use kerning to reduce the space between two adjacent characters. (WAVE) (LOVE)
Tracking
used to increase or decrease the space between a range of characters
Horizontal and Vertical Scale
used to expand or condense selected characters making them fatter or thinner
Baseline Shift
enables you to move characters above or below their original baseline
